Several people set up a roadblock on a Livermore street and pelted a police officer with chunks of concret...when he stopped to clear it, sending him to the hospital...
...Within moments of climbing out of his car, the officer was pelted with 8-by-14-inch chunks of concrete and 3-inch rocks by three or four people who were waiting on the overpass...
Wednesday was the first action by the recently formed Contra Costa 99%. A few hundred people showed up to the demonstration in Walnut Creek. Pretty fantastic for a group that formed only about a week beforehand. Video:
As one may expect, the crowd was very liberal (as opposed to radical.) The organizers of this action seemed to not really understand that the main thing the Occupy movement has agreed on is a participatory and consensus based form of decision making. read a good critique of the Walnut Creek demo here.
Finally, I recommend everyone, especially those new to this who protesting thing read the letter Crimethinc wrote to the Occupy movement. The anti globalization movement learned a lot during the last decade. The Occupy folks should use that knowledge.
Corrupt cops are nothing new or surprising to anyone who has ever dealt with law enforcement. Looks like one of Contra Costa's finest is now in trouble himself.
"Norman Wielsch, commander of the Central Contra Costa County Narcotics Enforcement Team, and Chris Butler, who runs the P.I. firm Butler and Associates, were booked into County Jail in Martinez on Wednesday on scores of suspected offenses including possession and sale of marijuana and controlled substances, embezzlement, second-degree burglary and conspiracy."
Dina Boyer posted some nice photographs of the Port Chicago Naval Magazine National Memorial on indybay. The memorial is not open to the public, so it is nice to at least see some pictures. Check it out.
Dave Brubeck is a well recognized jazz pianist who was born in Concord! He did grow up in Ione, California (which used to be called bed bug city!) but we Concordians can still claim him as one of our own. You can read more about Mr. Brubeck on his wikipedia page and listen to some fo his music on youtube. Here is an old video of a young Mr. Brubeck playing with The Dave Brubeck Quartet. Halfway through the video we are treated to an interview with Mr. Burbeck.
Finally, we should remember that along with being a tremendous musician, Mr. Burbeck created one of the first racially integrated bands of the US armed forces. Later, he faced pressure from club owners and television producers who were not willing to allow an integrated band to perform. Instead of taking the easy way out and replacing the black musicians in his band, Mr. Brubeck canceled those appearances. This included whole tours of countries such as South Africa. Now that is someone Concord can be proud of.
in every one of those little stucco boxes there's some poor bastard who's NEVER free except when he's fast asleep and dreaming that he's got the boss down the bottom of a well and is bunging lumps of coal at him. -- George Orwell
The Business Insider, hardly a mouthpiece for the Communist Party has "15 Mind-Blowing Facts About Wealth And Inequality In America" and they really are mind blowing. I honestly don't see how someone can look at these statistics and justify or defend the existence of capitalist class society. I dont want to go into a rant about it because other, far more intelligent people have written plenty about class and the injustices of the capitalist system. I just want to point out that basically, these 15 facts that the Business Insider put together are the reason i am an anti-capitalist.
3 US citizens have been held imprisoned by Iran for one year now. they have not been charged with anything. they are victims of a stupid game that governments play with one another. that's how the world works. innocent people are always the ones who suffer most when governments cannot get along. to mark the one year period of imprisonment there are going to be rallies held around the US, including one in San Francisco. 12:00 at 16th and Mission on Saturday.
These kinds of things are frustrating because there is so little we can do. it seems impossible to put pressure on the government of iran. the people of iran have so little influence on their government, what can we do? look at the list of people who have called for the release of the hikers, with no results. it just makes me hope for a successful revolt in iran even more.
the KKK.... errr, i mean, the Mehserle supporters held their little rally in walnut creek and were far outnumbered and outclassed by the larger group of Oscar Grant supporters.
In other interesting news, Michael Rains, the lawyer scum bag who has been defending Merserle is from San Ramon and has his offices in Pleasant Hill. His whole deal is that he defends corrupt cops, including the Oakland Riders. Feel free to read about the criminal cops he has been defending on his firm's website.
For the pigs reading this, if you feel like beating someone up or shooting and unarmed man in the back, just get in touch with Rains, Lucia & Wilkinson LLP. They will make sure you will not be held accountable for your actions.

oh boy, there's gonna be a buncha bacon in walnut creek on monday.
some idiots decided to have a pro johannes mehserl, pro pig rally.
Anyone who supports Johannes and our Law Enforcement Officers may attend. This is a peaceful rally to show our support for Johannes and the injustices he is experiencing.
The rally is from 2pm-7pm on Monday July 19th at the Walnut Creek Courthouse on Ygnacio Valley Road.
i really wasnt sure if i should give these idiots any more publicity, but i guess the contra costa times picked up on this, so i may as well mention it. oh, and 2-7 on monday? dont these people have jobs?! (which is something you always hear right-wingers saying whenever the left has a rally) i sure hope this thing stays peaceful. it sure would be a pity if a riot broke out in walnut creek or is some of those bomb throwing anarchists showed up. that would be a real pity.
this blog is created as a radical alternative to the number of moderate to conservative blogs from the concord area. for better or worse, the interwebs have become an important part of our society, and we feel the need to represent our points of view on these interwebs. as we all know, if it isnt on the interwebs it doesnt exist. send hate email to qnieinsone at gmail.
