Anarchist Historian Howard Zinn, Dead.

The media are starting to write up obituaries for Howard Zinn; the historian, activist, teacher, writer, and radical. I expect anarchists will write their own versions in the coming days.

one of the last things Zinn wrote was a very short piece on how Obama's first year was an expected disappointment. His most famous work by far is A People's History of the United States.

If you are unfamiliar with it, i would highly suggest downloading (or buying) the audio for Heroes and Martyrs, a talk he gives about history, his life, anarchism, etc.
the downloads are here:

I would say him and Noam Chomsky were the two most influential radical/anarchist intellectuals of recent times. He will be missed.
