we dont talk to police

as someone who wants nothing to do with police or the prison system, sometimes people say things like "well, that's all good and fine now, but what if you got robbed..."
well, subrosa infoshop in santa cruz did get robbed. the police caught the thief and guess what? the anarchist infoshop doesnt want to press any charges and isnt interested in working with the police to put this person in jail.
We had a break-in/burglary in the early hours of Sat, June 26. Someone broke a window, took some stuff from the backroom and the money we had in the register, which didn't really amount to much.

It is a bit of an inconvenience for us, but not anything more than that really. A small portion of the SubRosa collective, who were dealing with the aftermath and cleanup, decided that we do not want to pursue charges against the person who was arrested. We see this as another symptom of capitalism--some people have nothing and feel desperate enough to break in to spaces that also, it turns out this time, have nothing. Crimes against property are driven by poverty and desperation. We have no desire for police in our community and will not be working with them in this case, except to recover our property, which they have in their possession.

the reaction of the local fox news station is great. they are so shocked and amazed that anyone wouldnt press charges against someone else. watching it you will either laugh or cry. laugh at how they seem to just not understand where subrosa is coming from. cry that so many people in our society would be willing to put a person in a cage because they tried to take someone else's stuff.

  1. hey there.
i actually staff at subrosa every monday and also come straight outta concord.
first, i appreciate your post on this.
second, THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE FROM CONCORD WHO CARE ABOUT THIS?!?!?

WHERE ARE YOU? ARE THERE MORE LIKE YOU? IS THERE AN UNDERGROUNDZZ ANARCHIST SQUATTER'S COLLECTIVE ON MONUMENT SOMEWHERE??

    and third:
i'm moving back to the east Yay in September, and i'm really depressed to be leaving my anarchist family in santa cruz to return to suburbia... and it fills my heart with so much joy to see another leftist out there.
is there any growth of the radical in Concord/Martinez/PH/WC? are you a lone wolf, or are there others?
moreover, i think that we should meet up some time and talk, maybe about community spaces in concord. i've always thought that concord has SUCH potential for a kickass DIY scene, what with the working class history, bohemian small-town feel of Todos Santos, and immigrant population. i had long resigned it to being lost to the bourgeoisie, but this gives me hope.

i sent you an email. HOLLA!
